2025 – Intercontinentals

L-R: Roy Welland, Sabine Auken, Stefano Tommasini, Ben Norton

Sabine Auken is a multiple world champion in the Women’s game. Her book ‘I Love This Game’ (written with Mark Horton) describes the bidding and play of the final set of the 2001 Venice Cup which the German Women won. She now plays with Roy Welland and together they have qualified for the German Open team, most recently in the 2024 European Championships. Sabine bids a lot.

For Ben Norton, 27, this will be a sixth consecutive Lederer appearance and, coincidentally, the sixth time he’ll break out his favourite shirt-trousers combo.

After managing his first positive butler score in 2024, Ben is solemnly awaiting a return to form this year. With this in mind, it’s incomprehensible why a pair with the status of Roy and Sabine would tolerate Norton as a teammate; being a man of simple tastes, it’s certainly not for his restaurant recommendations.

(Ed – for a more eh… accomplishment-focused! bio see Ben’s EBU page)

Stefano Tommasini is originally from Brazil but now lives in London. He and Ben Green represented England in the European Championships in 2022. Partnering Ben Norton, he played on the England Open Team in Denmark in 2024 and qualified for the Bermuda Bowl later this year.

Roy Welland: A former world champion and multiple US national winner, he now represents the German open team. Playing with Sabine he was on the German team that qualified for 2015 Bermuda Bowl. Away from the bridge table, Roy is a noted oenophile. Roy bids a lot.
