Alexander Allfrey has been Andrew Robson’s regular partner for over 12 years. He has won several national trophies including the Gold Cup, Spring 4s, Premier League and Crockfords, and has frequently played for England in the Camrose. He has also played for England in the World Mind Sports Games in Lille 2012 and again in the World Team Championships in Bali 2013, reaching the quarter-finals. More recently he has won Bronze with this Lederer team in the World Bridge Series Open Teams 2018 in Orlando. Alexander is a psychotherapist and lives in Dorset with his wife and five children.
Peter Crouch is a 64-year-old retired Chartered Accountant and full-time bridge professional. His bridge successes include winning the Vanderbilt teams, Gold Medal in the European Winter Games, seven Gold Cups (making him the joint-fourth most successful player in the history of the competition), four Spring Fours, three Crockfords Cups and four Premier League wins as well as representing England in the European Championships, two Olympiads and in a number of Camrose matches.
He represented England in the European Championships and World Mind Sport Games in 2012 and the World Bridge Games in 2024. In 2017 he was part of a team which won a bronze medal in the Transnational competition at the World Teams Championships.
In 2018 he won the Silidor pairs in Philadelphia. In 2019 he was part of the Wolfson team that won the Vanderbilt teams in Memphis. In 2020 he won a silver medal in the Open Pairs at the European Winter Games. In 2023 he was part of the Orca team that won the gold medal in European Winter Games.
When not playing or coaching bridge he spends his time helping to look after his seven year old grandson with his wife Sara and trying to get out to the Golf Course.
Oliver Lawrence is a 33 year old barrister who enjoys the game. His bridge CV includes one or two victories at the Friday Evening Duplicate at the Young Chelsea, where he can be found playing with his father from time to time. This is his second appearance in the Lederer – he is hoping to execute a few finesses and have a good time.
Patrick Lawrence is a barrister when he is not playing bridge. He used to play rubber bridge for money at the Portland, but now he mostly plays competitive bridge with his son Oliver which is more hazardous. Their partnership has, though, lasted longer than the partnership of the leading Greek father and son pair whose surname was Rex.
Andrew Robson Playing with Allfrey and Forrester, Andrew has won countless domestic events, including the Gold Cup in 2012, 2013 and 2014, the Premier League in 2013, 2014 and 2016, and the Spring Fours in 1996, 2009 and 2016. He has also enjoyed major international success including the European gold in 1991 and bronze in 2014, and fourth in the 2015 Bermuda Bowl. Andrew and Alexander were joint winners of the EBU’s Player of the Year in 2016. Andrew will partner David Gold in Denmark in the European Championships in July 2024.
Playing is only part of Andrew’s life in bridge – he writes daily for The Times and weekly for Country Life and Money Week. He runs the famous Andrew Robson Bridge Club in South West London where he teaches. He also travels the country teaching charity bridge days and master classes.
